BEAUTY TECH · PERSONAL CONSULTATION

Understand your hair.
Care more precisely.

K-SCAN is Kérastase’s smart camera for a detailed hair and scalp analysis. High-resolution images and AI support the consultation and help select a suitable care routine.

  1. Scan.

Three light modes — white, cross-polarised and ultraviolet — reveal different features of the hair and scalp.

  2. Understand together.

We discuss the images and analysis with you, taking your wishes and existing care routine into account.

  3. Personalise your care.

You receive recommendations for salon and home care. Cosmetic analysis does not replace a medical examination.

White LED light

Kérastase K-SCAN white-light example: hair fibres, scalp surface and shine
Kérastase · example image

Oiliness, thickness & density.

In the image: individual hairs, the points where they emerge, and shine on the scalp surface.

Sebum and the skin surface
Light reflections reveal shine from sebum and oils. The image also shows surface texture and visible flakes.
Hair fibre diameter
AI assesses the width of visible hairs. This helps match care to finer or thicker hair fibres.
Hair density
The analysis identifies hairs in the captured area and can assess their density per cm². These are visible hairs, not roots hidden beneath the skin.
02

Cross-polarised light

Kérastase K-SCAN cross-polarised example: skin colour and pinkish areas between hairs
Kérastase · example image

Redness & skin tone.

In the image: pink to reddish areas between the hairs, with reduced surface glare.

Redness and signs of irritation
Light filters reduce distracting reflections. This makes colour differences and reddened areas easier to assess.
Pigmentation and fine vessels
This mode helps reveal skin tone, pigmentation and superficial capillaries. Itching or pain are discussed during your consultation, not measured by the camera.
03

Ultraviolet light

Kérastase K-SCAN UV example: bluish scalp, pale flakes and red fluorescent spots at hair openings
Kérastase · example image

Flakes & porphyrins.

In the image: pale flakes against a blue background and small red fluorescent spots at some hair openings.

Dandruff and cell build-up
UV light highlights flakes and clusters of dead skin cells. Their distribution helps guide the choice of scalp care.
Porphyrin fluorescence
Certain molecules associated with the skin microbiome’s activity glow reddish under UV light. These are fluorescent signals, not photographs of individual bacteria or evidence of an infection.

4K imaging & AI analysis

The camera captures high-resolution images. AI developed by L’Oréal supports the assessment of visible features; we explain the findings clearly.

02

One area or several

A short scan examines one selected area. The more detailed mode covers four scalp areas. Kérastase gives indicative times of about 5 and 15 minutes respectively.

03

Your care routine

The analysis informs recommendations for salon services and home products: from cleansing and targeted care to complementary serums and styling.

04

Before, after & over time

Repeat images allow comparisons after a treatment and at later visits. We discuss changes using your own images; results vary from person to person.

These are manufacturer examples, not results from our salon’s clients. K-SCAN supports cosmetic consultations and does not replace a dermatological examination.
